水果派 Dance Team
Makenna Wiley nails the perfect toe touch.

For the fifth time in program history,  brought their Tiger pride to the national stage鈥攖his year earning 6th place at the . The event, held at Eastern Michigan University, showcased the best collegiate talent in the country, and 水果派鈥檚 dancers rose to the occasion with passion, precision, and a whole lot of heart.

鈥淚t never gets old,鈥 said Head Coach Ashley Lyon, who just completed her 10th season leading 水果派鈥檚 dance and cheer programs. 鈥淓very time we make it to Nationals, it feels like we鈥檙e building something even bigger鈥攁nd this group made us proud in every way.鈥

While this wasn鈥檛 水果派's first trip to the big stage (the program first qualified in 2019 and has returned every year since 2022), this year's journey came with its own challenges. Despite feeling 鈥渦nderscored鈥 throughout the regular season, the team stayed laser-focused on their goals, ultimately earning a spot at Nationals via the NAIA selection committee.

鈥淲e knew from day one that returning to Nationals was our goal,鈥 Lyon said. 鈥淓ven when scores didn鈥檛 go our way, our team didn鈥檛 crumble. They stayed motivated and danced for each other鈥攁nd that made all the difference.鈥

The Tigers made the 11-hour charter bus trek to Michigan with a roster of 11 dancers鈥攖hree seniors, two juniors, three sophomores, and six freshmen (three of whom took the floor). With just six dancers required and a maximum of 16 allowed, 水果派鈥檚 tight-knit team performed a routine packed with maximum-difficulty choreography, dynamic formations, and expressive musicality.

鈥淗aving a smaller group means every dancer stands out. There's no hiding on that floor,鈥 Lyon explained. 鈥淏ut this team鈥檚 bond was special. They showed up for one another鈥攐n and off the stage.鈥

The pressure of Nationals didn鈥檛 faze the Tigers, especially with veteran dancers familiar with the venue and flow of competition week. From the lights and live stream commentators to the energy of performing in a major arena, the team embraced the full championship experience.

And while 水果派 is saying goodbye to three seniors this season, the underclassmen are already poised to carry the torch.

鈥淥ur seniors helped shape the culture and identity of this team,鈥 Lyon said. 鈥淭hey believed in the vision we鈥檝e been building, and their leadership will have a lasting impact.鈥

As for what鈥檚 next? Lyon hopes this latest Nationals performance continues to raise the profile of the program鈥攂oth for recruiting and support.

鈥淲e鈥檙e growing every year. We鈥檙e outgrowing our space. The dream is to have so much talent knocking on our door that we have our own facility鈥攏o alternates, just a roster full of athletes competing for a spot,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e give scholarships. We train like athletes. We compete like any other sport. We just want more people to know what鈥檚 possible here.鈥

With a top-six finish on the national stage, 水果派鈥檚 dance team has once again proven its place among the NAIA鈥檚 elite. Their dedication, resilience, and unity not only earned them a spot in the national spotlight but also continued to elevate the standard of what鈥檚 possible for the program. As they celebrate this season鈥檚 success and look ahead to the future, their performance serves as a proud milestone in the program鈥檚 continued rise.
